Makua's Annual Fundraising Event Benefiting Voices for Children Let's party like it's 1953! Makua's Back To The Beach Saturday, June 1st at 5:30 pm Celebrate the 60th anniversary of Makua at a rollicking retro beach party right where it all began, the beautiful Kona Kai Resort on Shelter Island.		It was 1953 … …the Padres were in the Pacific Coast League – Lefty O’Doul was the manager – they played at Lane Field – scored 704 runs and allowed 741 runs that season …everyone on the Point went to the Loma Theater to see that racy scene in “From Here to Eternity” …and a group of women came together to form Makua (Hawaiian for “parent”) and raise funds to help abused and at-risk children in San Diego. The rest is history.
Enjoy libations with friends and neighbors, followed by dinner, dancing, and the legendary Makua auction.	Twist, stroll and hand jive to the rockin' tunes of Jocko from Sha Na Na!
